Building - Permission
We have handed the application to the Building Office that controls construction in your area of Crete. What happens next?
The staff at the Building Office check all the technical data to make certain that what you want to build complies with the building code. They check the size against that permitted by the planning rules. They check the engineers static calculations to make sure that your house will survive a severe earthquake. The plans are checked for visual acceptabilty by a panel of three architects.
All the necessary signatures are collected and the file that calculates all the contributions to various government agencies and technical colleges is completed. Finally the licence is granted. The licence is valid for four years but can be renewed at a small additional cost for a further four years. Thus you must start building withing eight years.
Dependant on the area that your property falls into, it is sometimes custom and practice for you to be able to start construction as soon as the protocol number is issued by the building office. You will not be able to do this if you are reliant on a construction mortgage to fund your building as the Bank will require a copy of the licence before granting your mortgage application.
