Buying Property in Crete - Land Registry
Whilst you are celebrating, the Notary is still working.
It is the Notary's job to make certain that the property is registered with the Land Registry. She must prepare a copy of the contract, topography and tax receipts and lodge them with the local Land Registry Office. In our area the Land Registry offices are sited in Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and Sitia. Once the registration work has been completed the Land Registry issues a certificate and receipt for their fee.
Once registered, your ownership is a matter of public record, both in the Land Registry and in the Notary's office. The original contract containing signatures along with the signed copy of the topographic plan is kept in the Notary's office and is available for inspection by any interested party.
